Children of Blood and Bone

Story: ★★★ There is a lot going on in this story! But not like Game of Thrones with an endless list of characters and locations. There are only three points of view and the characters spend a lot of time together/in the same place. There are a lot of events crammed into this story and everything felt very rushed. And it’s a big book. The audio-book was nearly 18 hours!

Writing: ★★★ There were a few parts that read a bit juvenile but perhaps that was the character. The writing over all was fine. The story just had some pacing issues. Most of the story felt rushed. I think it would have been a much more engrossing story if she had slowed things down. Built better connections with the characters and painted a better picture of the world. There were a few times she used a made up animal or thing as a comparison. Which didn’t paint a clear picture.

Main: She was fine. A bit whiny.  She was nicely flawed but I didn’t get very attached to her.

Supporting: There were a few that shared the spotlight with the MC. I liked them all and they were all as developed or nearly as developed as the MC. However, I think the MC should have been better developed.

Feels: ★★★ The story was action packed but the suspense fell flat. Mostly because something else was already stealing your attention.

World: ★★★★ I really liked this world. I would have… Haha I was going to say…I would have loved to have seen more of it but I did see a lot of it, as the characters traveled all over. However, they never seemed to be anywhere for very long and the action stole all the page time.

Overall grade:★★★

Attachment: No real attachment. I got the audio-book from the library and I knew how long it was and that I only had a certain amount of time to listen to it. I started it on a road trip, so I got the first 10 hours done in two big chunks. There was once I turned it off and called a friend. There was just too much going on and I needed a break.
Recommendation: It is a good book… not really worth all the hype it’s getting. But the story is good. The world in interesting. I just hope the next book has better pacing.
